Kroonstad Academy

PRE-PRIMARY SCHOOL

Our pre-Primary School offers a complete Christian based education, from Pre-Primary to Grade R. Small classes and individual attention are given to each pupil and students are less traumatised by the Grade 1 transition as it is located on the same premises.

Computer literacy for Grade 00 and Grade R is offered, as well as school readiness testing. Extra mural activities aim to developing ball sense during morning sessions, which include Play ball, rugby, netball, cricket, hockey, with chess groups for further development.

Under the guidance of highly qualified staff and the use of modern, educational apparatus and stimulatory equipment, pupils are facilitated to reach their full potential.

JUNIOR (GRADE 1-3) PRIMARY SCHOOL

Four subjects are currently taught: Afrikaans, English, Mathematics and Integrated Studies. Tests are written regularly as well as four exams per year. Integrated Studies is a preparation to Geography, History, Science and Biology in higher grades.

Creativity is promoted and encouraged and the school boasts a very good reading programme, “The Oxford Reading Tree”, with the Afrikaans equivalent being “Die Oxford Storieboom”. Good results are achieved and an unbelievable enthusiasm and love of reading are developed. Classes are small, with a maximum of 25 students, making individual attention possible.

Remedial teaching is also offered by our qualified staff.

SENIOR (GRADE 4-7) PRIMARY SCHOOL

From Grade 4-7 all classes are offered in English medium. Classes are small with a maximum of 25 students, making individual attention possible. Students are evaluated twice per term by means of tests, class tests or tasks. At the end of each term exams are written covering all the work that have been done up to date. Term marks and exam marks are added together to determine a report mark for each term.

The following subjects are offered:

Examination subjects: Afrikaans / Sesotho Second Language, English First Language, Mathematics, Natural Science, Social Science, Life Orientation, Technology, Creative Arts.

HIGH SCHOOL (GRADE 8-12)

An international syllabus compiled by the University of Cambridge in England is followed. From Grade 8 tuition is offered only in English. The high school divided into three phases:

Grade 9 & 10

IGCSE Phase the following compulsory subjects are offered: Afrikaans / Sesotho Second Language, English First Language.

A choice of 4 subjects among the following: Mathematics, Physical Science, Computer Studies, Biology, Accounting, Business Studies, Geography and an External International examination at the end of Grade 10.

Grade 11 & 12

At AS Phase the following compulsory subjects are offered: Afrikaans / Sesotho Second Language, English First Language.

A choice of 4 subjects among the following: Mathematics, Physical Science, Biology, Accounting, Business Studies, Geography and an External International examination at the end of Grade 12.

  • EXTRA MURAL ACTIVITIES

    Sport

    A timetable with all the school activities is handed out at the beginning of each term. For the primary school we offer tennis, cricket, athletics and hockey. Our high school learners take part in the sport activities of Kroonstad High School – we only offer tennis at this level.

    Debating, Art, Chess, Olimpiads, CSV and Expos.
